George Mason set to announce basketball practice facility expansion
A $30 million dollar expansion will be coming in Fall 2024
George Mason is getting ready to announce that they are finally adding on to the basketball program’s dedicated practice facility. A $30 million dollar investment is in place to upgrade and expand the facilities coming in Fall of 2024. It will add several new elements as well to help both the men’s and women’s teams compete in the Atlantic 10 and the college basketball recruiting wars. Some of the new features will include:
Additional Practice Court
State of the art Academic Center
Barbershop (pretty damn cool)
Men’s & Women’s Basketball Locker Rooms
Players Lounge
Coaches Offices
Weight Room and Athletic Training Room
Rest and Recovery rooms with Sleep Pods
This expansion is long overdue since the original dedicated practice facility was completed back in October 2017. What they currently have is better than a lot of programs in the A-10 but this expansion helps them to compete for talent on a much broader scale in the college hoops world and especially the DMV. New head coach Tony Skinn is spending a lot of time and energy trying to recruit locally and this project will certainly help him with local talent that may typically overlook George Mason.
Recruiting has changed a lot since Mason built the original practice facility with NIL deals and the craziness of the transfer portal, but facilities still matter to recruits. The move shows the school’s commitment to basketball and how they plan to battle for a spot as a premier program in their conference. Skinn certainly has to win to do that but this at least shows that school’s leadership is trying to give him as many tools as possible to succeed.
More details of this project should be announced soon.
