George Mason wins at Rhode Island to avoid Tuesday games in Brooklyn
The Patriots picked up a nice Rhode win as the regular season winds down
George Mason got a much needed win to secure not having to play an extra day at the A-10 tournament in Brooklyn last night at Rhode Island. With rumors swirling that injured star player Keyshawn Hall has checked out and is saving himself for the next round of portal transfers, the Patriots came together and had a great offensive night on the road. Darius Maddox led the way without Hall and had a 21 point night while hitting 5-of-10 three-pointers. Amari Kelly bounced back from a poor showing against Duquesne and added 18 points while Woody Newton stepped up as well with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Ronny Polite returned from injury and came off the bench but had a tough night shooting the ball.
The Keyshawn Hall rumors are disheartening considering the A-10 tournament seems pretty wide open and we’ve seen Mason beat good teams this season. He responded to some of the criticism on twittter/x yesterday saying he was told to rest his ankle injury and get ready for the conference tournament. Hopefully that is true and we haven’t seen the last of him in a Mason uniform. The odds of the Patriots making a run to the A-10 Sunday finals from the 9 seed is highly unlikely but we all want to see the put their best effort forward at least one last time.
Mason has one last home game against Richmond, who has already secured 1st place in the conference.
If Hall transfers, this will validate the rumors that he quit on his team.
