Jalen Haynes denied waiver for immediate eligibility by NCAA
The school plans to appeal the decision for the two-transfer who previously played at ETSU and Virginia Tech
East Tennessee State transfer forward Jalen Haynes had his waiver request denied by the NCAA per Jon Rothstein. The waiver would have given Haynes immediate eligibility to play this upcoming season, the school plans to appeal the decision. He is a two-time transfer after beginning his college career at Virginia Tech. The 6’8” 260-pound forward would have most likely been the team’s leading scorer coming off a season last year where he averaged 17 PPG, 6.4 RPG, and shot over 57% from the field.
A big blow to the squad this season if Mason’s appeal does not work but we saw with Amari Kelly and Malik Henry that they do still have a solid presence in the front court either way. Haynes scoring touch around the rim would have been a great addition to this year’s team and his overall toughness is not something to easily replace. But either way he has two seasons of eligibility with Tony Skinn and George Mason.
