Keyshawn Hall is just getting started
The sophomore transfer has averaged over 20 PPG, 10 RPG, and 50% shooting in a recent span for the Patriots
Mason basketball bounced back from a close opening round loss in the Jacksonville Classic to Charlotte with a thrilling win over South Dakota State last night. Sophomore transfer Keyshawn Hall, who has been on fire lately, had the game-winning basket with only seconds remaining.
The confidence from Hall continues to be fun to watch as he’s undoubtedly the team’s go-to scorer. He earned A-10 co-player of the week honors earlier this week coming off some big games heading into this tournament. Hall continues to fuel the team’s overall resilience, something we haven’t seen in these MTE games in a long time.
But this isn’t a blip in the radar, Hall looks ready to continue to dominate. He produced well when given the minutes in his freshman year at UNLV but that wasn’t often so naturally he transferred. Have to think Tony Skinn was itching to see what Hall could produce if given the time on the court. With Mason having those to spare this season with so many new faces it’s looking like a match made in heaven.
Hall obviously has the talent but you can also see he’s getting it done with effort as he continues to average double-digit rebounds in each contest. All this while nearly averaging 40 minutes a game. His defensive rebounding % has hime ranked 23rd nationally according to Kenpom. You don’t see him miss a beat on the defensive end either.
I was worried heading into this season that they may rely too much on Ronald Polite but that hasn’t been the case as they’ve continued to win without him putting up numbers. Darius Maddox has been consistent along with Amari Kelly up front and they’ve found good balance with Baraka Okojie and Woody Newton off the bench. Make no mistake teams will begin to “key in” more on big Key but I think he’s going to be a big problem for A-10 opponents this season.
