Point guard Ronald Polite also heads to the transfer portal
Ronald Polite had plenty of good moments in Fairfax and Tony Skinn quickly worked to secure him shortly after being hired as head coach. Polite helped to steady the point guard position early in year one which was vital to this year’s team getting off to the right start. However injuries did play a factor in his four years here at Mason and he did eventually lose his starting position to freshman standout Baraka Okojie. So it makes sense that much like Malik Henry, he will be looking elsewhere for his final year of eligibiliy and enter the transfer portal.
With Skinn bringing in three star recruit Justin Begg, also a point guard, Polite’s role next season would have been uncertain. It’s certainly a changing of the tide as prior coaching staff’s players have moved on and Skinn continues to build out his own roster. However, Polite’s veteran leadership and experience could have been a great asset off the bench, much like Tre Wood’s role this past season. Mason proved this year that they are still in need of quality shooters and this move opens up another spot for the coaching staff to make moves this offseason.
Good luck to Ronny wherever he lands next.
Also transferring is guard Devin Dinkins, who took a redshirt season this year and will have three years remaining of eligibility,
