Recruiting update: 2023 guard Jordan Marsh commits to George Mason
The 5'10" guard from Moravian Prep in North Carolina is the 4th member of the '23 recruiting class for Kim English
Kim English added another recruit yesterday to his incoming 2023 class with the addition of Jordan Marsh. The 5’10” guard from Moravian Prep in North Carolina adds another possibility at point guard position and someone who fills up the stat sheet. A bit of an interesting pick up for next year’s team as they already seem guard heavy but perhaps we’ll see some guys move around in the back court line up. Wherever they think he fits it makes sense for them to have depth at guard considering how inconsistent the group was as a whole. This kid looks like he can flat out score and went through plenty of times this past season where that was an issue from the group.
Marsh is an explosive, quick guard with excellent handles who was probably not heavily recruited because of his size but has a lot said about his game that is impressive. This is from Phenom Hoops Report:
“He’s shown some improvements as a three-point shooter, but has still clearly maintained his identity as a tough, rugged, athletic downhill lead guard with the ability to fill it up offensively. Marsh is excellent at getting downhill, attacking the teeth of the defense, and applying pressure at the rim. He’s a crafty ball-handler who can finish below or above the rim with relative ease. Marsh displays great feel, change of direction, and overall body control when looking to attack. He’s a useful passer who understands how to locate the open man at a solid rate. Marsh is also a pesky defender with the necessary blend of quickness, toughness, and general instincts to overwhelm his assignment on both ends of the floor.”
Of course the move also means that someone is not returning next year. We know today that it’s not Ticket Gaines, who announced he will in fact return for this 5th season:
The obvious answer is probably that Josh Oduro is leaving, which may actually open up two roster spots when you factor in his brother Peter and the two being a package deal. Still unknown at this point and perhaps maybe it’s someone else who is on their way out. If Oduro does leave it will bring a lot of questions of to be answered about how they will handle the front court before the season starts. However, I feel like this recruitment of Marsh indicates that they needed to get better at all the guard positions and add depth wherever they could. It’s definitely interesting if he does project to play point guard because of Devin Dinkins and Ronald Polite already in the mix. I highly doubt however this will be the last addition to the team before the offseason is said and done.
