Transfer Woody Newton receives waiver from NCAA
Newton will be eligible for the upcoming 2023-24 season for the Patriots
Oklahoma State transfer received a waiver from the NCAA and will be able to suit up for George Mason in 2023-24:
Newton is a two-time transfer, which is why he needed the waiver after starting his career at Syracuse. He’s originally from District Heights, MD and the 6’9” wing is a great addition for the Patriots. Last season at OK State he averaged career bests in scoring (4.3 ppg), rebounding (3.4 rpg) and minutes (17.0 mpg) while also starting 13 of 29 games. The opportunity for higher minutes and production will be there for him this upcoming season in Fairfax.
Mason now waits to hear to see if transfer forward Jalen Haynes will have the same waiver luck with the NCAA. Haynes has a chance to be the team’s leader scorer next season if that’s the case after averaging 14.6 PPG at ETSU last year.
